The pass rule
Regulation 2021, clause 14.1: you pass a course when you get at least 50% of the total marks (internal + end semester) and at least 45% of the end semester exam marks. Both conditions must hold.
How the marks are split
- Theory courses: internal 40, end semester exam 60 (the exam is written for 100 and scaled to 60).
- Theory courses with a lab component (like 3 0 2 4): internal 50, end semester 50.
- Laboratory courses: internal 60, end semester 40.
An example
With 20 internal marks in a theory course, you need 50 in the exam: 20 + 50 × 0.6 = 50. With 35 internal marks, 45 in the exam is enough, because the 45% exam minimum applies whatever your internals are.
If you have an arrear
Your internal marks from the first attempt are kept for later attempts. From the third attempt on, you also pass if you get 50% in the end semester exam alone. Check your internal marks with the internal marks calculator.
